King Crimson's debut album, released in 1969, is a foundational record in progressive rock, featuring the classic lineup of Robert Fripp, Greg Lake, Ian McDonald, Michael Giles, and Peter Sinfield. The album blends heavy, jazz-influenced rock with orchestral arrangements and abstract lyricism across five lengthy tracks. "21st Century Schizoid Man" opens the record with an aggressive, distorted assault, while the closing title track is a sweeping, mellotron-driven piece that became one of the defining songs of the era.
