Kris Kristofferson's 1971 debut album on Monument Records, featuring the Texas-born singer-songwriter performing his own compositions in a stripped-back country-folk style. Kristofferson had already established himself as one of Nashville's most sought-after songwriters before this record came out, and the album showcases that talent with originals like "Me and Bobby McGee" and "Help Me Make It Through the Night," both of which had become hits for other artists before Kristofferson recorded them himself. The record also includes "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down," which won the CMA Song of the Year in 1970 after Johnny Cash's famous performance of it
