Leadbelly was the influential Louisiana-born blues singer and twelve-string guitarist whose raw, powerful style bridged early folk, blues, and work song traditions. First Live Leadbelly, released in 1973 on Playboy Records, compiles live recordings capturing him in a more unguarded, informal setting than his studio work. The album showcases his commanding vocal style and guitar work across traditional material, including his signature songs "Goodnight, Irene" and "Midnight Special," both of which went on to become widely covered folk and blues standards.
