Leo Rowsome was an Irish uilleann piper widely regarded as one of the most important figures in the tradition, and this 1969 Claddagh Records release captures him in fine form across a selection of reels, jigs, and slow airs. Rowsome served as a piper to the Irish state and spent decades teaching the instrument, helping to keep uilleann piping alive during a period when its practice had significantly declined. The album presents the full range of the instrument, from brisk dance tunes to more contemplative pieces, and stands as a key document of mid-twentieth century Irish traditional music.
