Leon Russell released "Hank Wilson's Back Vol. I" in 1973 under the pseudonym Hank Wilson on Shelter Records, a straightforward country album that found the Oklahoma-born rock and soul pianist setting aside his usual style to record classic honky-tonk and country standards. The record features interpretations of songs associated with artists like Hank Williams and George Jones, with Russell delivering a sincere and unpretentious take on traditional country music.
