Near Mint #225
The Pebbles is a Quebec musical group that existed from 1962 to 1968 and specialized in folk-style interpretation of traditional French and Quebec songs.
It was composed of Jean-Pierre Goulet (guitar & voice), Jean Fortier (guitar and voice), Robert Jourdain (double bass, guitar and voice) and Yves Lapierre (guitar, banjo, voice and arrangements).
History
The four members, who attended Collège Saint-Paul in Montreal at the time when Robert Charlebois was there [ref. needed], decided to make music together in November 19621. They opened for Pauline Julien in 1965 and won some awards at the Festival du disque in 1965 and 1966.
They hosted their own show Les Cailloux on Radio-Canada in 1967 and toured the world stages, including the Olympia in Paris, with Gilles Vigneault, Louise Forestier and Clémence DesRochers.
They split up in 1968. Yves Lapierre later became a sought-after composer and arranger2. For his part, Jean Fortier released, solo between 1967 and 1970, three singles and an album of more modern songs, before being hospitalized in September 19703 and he died in early 1971.
Jean-Pierre Goulet first taught at the college level, including at Collège de l'Assomption1, before becoming a college pedagogy consultant. Robert Jourdain became an English teacher at the secondary level and continued to be active in folk music within several musical formations, including Carcajou, Turlure, Chasse-Galerie and BardeFou. He died on March 15, 2012 at the age of 66 following a short illness
