Level 42's *World Machine*, released in 1985 on Polydor, is the British band's fifth studio album and the record that broke them into mainstream success. The album blends their jazz-funk roots with polished synth-pop and R&B production, showcasing bassist and vocalist Mark King's signature slap bass style alongside smooth electronic arrangements. "Something About You" and "Leaving Me Now" were the standout singles, both charting strongly in the UK and giving the band significant international exposure.
