Linda Ronstadt's 1983 album "What's New" marked a significant departure from her rock and country rock work, pairing her with veteran arranger and conductor Nelson Riddle and his orchestra for a collection of classic American pop standards from the 1930s and 40s. The album features lush, big band arrangements backing Ronstadt's voice on tracks like the title song "What's New" and "Lush Life." It was one of the best-selling albums of that year and is credited with helping revive mainstream interest in the Great American Songbook.
