Linda Ronstadt's 1977 album Simple Dreams was one of the biggest-selling records of that year, blending country rock, pop, and soft rock in the polished style she had developed throughout the mid-seventies. The album features her well-known covers of Roy Orbison's "Blue Bayou" and Buddy Holly's "It's So Easy," both of which became major hits, as well as a country-inflected take on Warren Zevon's "Carmelita." Produced by Peter Asher, it sits comfortably alongside her other Asylum releases from that era as a strong example of the California soft rock sound.
