Lou Donaldson's Cosmos came out in 1971 on Blue Note and finds the alto saxophonist deep in his soul-jazz and jazz-funk period, following the commercial success of albums like Alligator Bogaloo. The record features a groove-heavy sound with organ, electric piano, and guitar, reflecting the direction Blue Note was pushing many of its artists at the time. It sits comfortably alongside his other early-seventies output for the label.
