Bruno Walter conducts the Columbia Symphony Orchestra in this recording of Beethoven's Third Symphony, the "Eroica," one of the most significant works in the orchestral repertoire, composed in 1803-1804 and marking a turning point in Beethoven's middle period. The symphony runs four movements, opening with the bold and expansive Allegro con brio and including the celebrated Marcia funebre, a slow funeral march that stands as one of Beethoven's most profound orchestral statements. Walter recorded this with the Columbia Symphony Orchestra in the late 1950s or early 1960s as part of his celebrated late-career series for Columbia Masterworks.
