Here's a stellar example of Mac Wiseman at his most refined, captured during his mid-60s peak when he was seamlessly bridging traditional bluegrass with the emerging folk revival movement. "Songs Of The Dear Old Days" finds the "Voice with a Heart" delivering his signature high lonesome sound across a collection of carefully chosen standards and lesser-known treasures. Wiseman's interpretive skills were never sharper than during this period – he had moved beyond his early days with Bill Monroe and Flatt & Scruggs to establish himself as one of bluegrass music's most sophisticated vocalists and arrangers.
