Merle Haggard's Big City came out in 1981 on Epic Records and stands as one of his stronger efforts from that period, blending traditional country with the working-class themes he built his career on. The title track became a signature song for Haggard, expressing a weariness with urban life and a longing to get away, and it hit number one on the country charts. The album also includes "Are the Good Times Really Over," another top-charting single that reflects on American nostalgia and cultural change. Solid late-period Haggard country.
