Michael W. Smith's debut solo album, released in 1983 on Reunion Records, marked his transition from keyboardist and backing vocalist for Amy Grant into his own career as a Christian pop artist. The record leans heavily on early-80s synth-pop production with polished electronic textures and bright, radio-friendly arrangements typical of the era. "Great Is the Lord" and "Friends" are the standout tracks, both of which became well-known songs in contemporary Christian music circles.
