Musical Youth were a Birmingham-based group of teenage musicians who blended reggae with accessible pop sensibilities, and "The Youth of Today" was their debut album, released in 1982 on MCA Records. The record arrived on the back of their international hit "Pass the Dutchie," which appears here and became one of the defining reggae-pop singles of the early 1980s. The album's sound is lightweight and radio-friendly, mixing ska-influenced rhythms with pop song structures in a way that appealed well beyond traditional reggae audiences.
