Neil Young's third studio album, released in 1970 on Reprise Records, finds him moving through a mix of folk, country rock, and piano-driven balladry. The record includes some of his most recognized songs, among them "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" and the title track "After the Gold Rush," as well as "Southern Man," which drew a notable response from Lynyrd Skynyrd years later. Recorded with a loose, intimate feel, the album features contributions from Nils Lofgren and Stephen Stills alongside Young's characteristic blend of acoustic and electric arrangements.
