Description Released as an in-store promotional LP by WEA Music of Canada in Spring 1983, New Music captured the pulse of emerging sounds across synthpop, new wave, and post-punk. This sampler featured breakout tracks from rising stars and genre-defining acts, many of whom would dominate the charts and reshape pop culture throughout the decade.

Yaz’s “Only You” and Berlin’s “Sex (I’m A…)” brought synth-driven intimacy and provocation, while Echo & The Bunnymen’s “The Cutter” and U2’s “War” delivered post-punk urgency and political edge. Prince’s “Little Red Corvette” marked his ascent into pop royalty, and INXS’s “The One Thing” introduced their sleek, danceable rock to North America.

Canadian content included Men Without Hats’ “I Got the Message,” a follow-up to their smash “Safety Dance,” and the Greg Kihn Band’s “Jeopardy,” which became a Top 10 hit. With tracks sourced from albums like 1999, Porcupine, Rhythm of Youth, and Pleasure Victim, this promo LP remains a time capsule of 1983’s sonic frontier.
