Here's a proper slice of Canadian new wave history that deserves more recognition than it typically gets. Payola$' debut "No Stranger To Danger" captures the Vancouver band at their most urgent and focused, right as they were transitioning from their earlier punk incarnation Rock and Hyde. Paul Hyde's distinctive vocals and Bob Rock's guitar work (yes, that Bob Rock, years before he became the go-to producer for Metallica and Bon Jovi) create a sound that sits perfectly between the rawness of early 80s punk and the polish of new wave radio hits.
