Rita MacNeil was a beloved Cape Breton singer-songwriter who became one of Canada's most celebrated folk and country-influenced pop artists. Reason To Believe, released in 1988 on Virgin Records Canada, was a major breakthrough album for her, featuring the widely known track "Working Man," a tribute to the coal miners of Cape Breton that became one of the most recognized Canadian songs of its era. The album blends folk, country, and soft pop with MacNeil's warm, distinctive voice and her characteristically heartfelt, working-class storytelling.
