Robert Johnson was a Mississippi Delta blues guitarist and singer who recorded a small but massively influential body of work in 1936 and 1937 before his death at age 27. This 1970 Columbia compilation is the second volume collecting his surviving recordings, following the first volume released in 1961, and features tracks including "Traveling Riverside Blues" and "Stop Breakin' Down Blues." Johnson's style combined intricate fingerpicking, a haunting vocal delivery, and lyrics steeped in themes of travel, women, and the supernatural, and his recordings went on to deeply influence generations of blues and rock musicians.
