Rod Stewart's debut solo album, released in 1969 on Mercury Records, finds the young British singer working in a raw, rootsy style that draws heavily from folk, blues, and rock, setting him apart from the polished pop he would later become known for. Recorded with contributions from Ron Wood, the album has a loose, acoustic-leaning feel with covers alongside original material, including a version of "Street Fighting Man" and the standout "Handbags and Gladrags," which would become one of his most recognized early tracks.
