Ronnie Hawkins is a Arkansas-born rockabilly singer who relocated to Canada in the late 1950s and became a foundational figure in the Canadian rock scene, famously mentoring the musicians who would go on to form The Band. Released in 1981 on the Canadian Quality label, "A Legend In His Spare Time" is a later-career record that finds Hawkins working in his familiar territory of rock and roll with country rock leanings, showcasing the rough-edged vocal style that defined his long career.
