Rush's 1977 studio album, their fifth, marked a significant turn toward progressive rock with longer, more complex compositions and increased use of synthesizers alongside their trademark power trio sound. The album opens with the epic title track and includes "Xanadu," a sprawling piece inspired by the Coleridge poem, as well as "Closer to the Heart," which became one of their more accessible and well-known singles. Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart were fully in their stride here, bridging their hard rock roots with the art rock ambitions that would define their late-70s output.
