Here's a fascinating piece of recording history that deserves more recognition among collectors. Ry Cooder's "Bop Till You Drop" holds the distinction of being one of the first major-label rock albums recorded entirely on digital equipment, captured at Warner Bros. studios using their experimental 3M digital multitrack system. While purists initially balked at the clinical sound, this technological leap forward actually serves Cooder's meticulous approach to roots music perfectly. The album finds him diving deep into rhythm and blues, rockabilly, and early rock and roll, with standout covers of Elvis's "Little Sister" and a scorching version of "Go Home Girl" that showcases his slide guitar mastery.
