Steve Forbert's debut "Alive On Arrival" remains one of the most compelling introductions by a singer-songwriter of the late '70s, and this Canadian Epic pressing captures the raw energy that made critics compare him to early Dylan and Springsteen. Recorded in 1978 when Forbert was barely out of his teens, the album chronicles his journey from small-town Mississippi to the streets of New York with a blend of folk storytelling and rock urgency that feels both timeless and distinctly of its era. The production by John Simon (known for his work with The Band) strikes the perfect balance between studio polish and the scrappy authenticity that defined Forbert's Greenwich Village performances.
