Steve Miller Band's seventh studio album, released in 1973 on Capitol Records, finds Miller moving away from the psychedelic blues rock of his earlier work toward a smoother, more accessible pop rock sound. The title track "The Joker" became the band's first number one single and remains one of their most recognizable songs, built around a laid-back groove and Miller's playful self-referential lyrics. The album also includes "Sugar Babe" and "Something to Believe In," reflecting the easygoing California rock feel that runs throughout the record.
