Here's a real oddball from the Beach Boys catalog that deserves far more recognition than it received upon release. "Love You" represents Brian Wilson's most unfiltered creative statement of the 1970s, recorded almost entirely by him alone in his home studio using a Minimoog synthesizer and drum machine. This deeply personal collection emerged during one of Wilson's most isolated periods, resulting in a stark, lo-fi aesthetic that was completely at odds with what anyone expected from the Beach Boys in 1977. The album's childlike lyrics and primitive electronic arrangements initially baffled critics and fans alike, but time has revealed it as a fascinating glimpse into Wilson's uncompromising artistic vision.
