RARE JACKSONVILLE ISSUE - BLUE LABELS

  • The Normal Setup: When originally issued on Apple in 1973, 1962–1966 had red labels. In 1976, Capitol reissued both compilations. SKBO 3403 was supposed to get matching red Capitol labels, while 1967–1970 (SKBO 3404, the "Blue Album") received blue Capitol labels.

  • The Error: In 1976, Capitol's Jacksonville, Illinois plant (and a few contract plants like PRC) mistakenly loaded the blue label stock into the press for the Red Album. The labels carry the correct SKBO 3403 catalog number and tracklist, but on the blue background.

  • Jacksonville misprint, you'll usually find a stamped or hand-etched 0 or O alongside the matrix numbers.

The Beatles' 1962-1966, commonly known as the "Red Album," is a double LP compilation released in 1976 covering the band's early period from their debut singles through the mid-sixties. It draws from their first four years of recording, tracing the group's development from early Merseybeat and pop rock into more sophisticated songwriting. Tracks include "Love Me Do," "She Loves You," "A Hard Day's Night," "Help," and "Yesterday," among others, making it a solid overview of their formative output.
