The Byrds' debut album, released in 1965 on Columbia Records, helped define the sound of folk rock by blending Bob Dylan's songwriting with jangly twelve-string Rickenbacker guitar and close harmonies. The record includes their landmark cover of Dylan's "Mr. Tambourine Man," which hit number one, along with another Dylan cover, "All I Really Want to Do," and Pete Seeger's "The Bells of Rhymney." The album draws heavily from the folk revival while pushing it toward a harder, more electric direction that would influence rock music for decades.
