The Corries were a Scottish folk duo consisting of Roy Williamson and Ronnie Browne, who performed together from the 1960s until Williamson's death in 1990 and were well known for their renditions of traditional Scottish songs as well as original compositions. Released in 1979 on the Waverley label, 16 Scottish Favourites is a collection of well-known Scottish folk songs and ballads, typical of the accessible, crowd-pleasing style the duo built their reputation on. The album draws from the broad repertoire of Scottish traditional music that the Corries helped bring to wider audiences through television appearances and live performance throughout the 1970s.
