Description
Strings and Things was issued in the United States by Fiesta Records using master material licensed from EMI, presenting The Corries during the period when Roy Williamson and Ronnie Browne were developing their signature sound built around guitars, mandolins, whistles, and the custom‑designed “combolins.” The album highlights the duo’s arrangements of Scottish traditional songs, ballads, and instrumental sets, emphasizing harmony vocals and intricate string work.
The U.S. Fiesta edition was part of the label’s “International Series,” which introduced European folk recordings to the North American market. Fiesta’s mastering and packaging differ from the original U.K. issue, but the musical content remains sourced from EMI’s studio recordings. The program includes well‑known traditional pieces such as “Jock O’Hazeldean,” “The Dowie Dens o’ Yarrow,” and the Shetland tune medley, alongside material arranged by Williamson and Browne.
