After Midnight is a 1957 Capitol Records release from the Nat King Cole Trio, recorded in a late-night small group session format that strips things back to an intimate jazz and swing setting. Cole is joined by a rotating cast of jazz soloists including Johnny Hodges, Stuff Smith, and Harry Edison, giving the album a relaxed, after-hours feel. It stands as one of the better showcases of Cole's jazz roots before his career became almost entirely focused on orchestrated pop vocal recordings.
