The Northern Pikes were a Canadian rock band from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and Big Blue Sky was their major label debut, released in 1987 on Virgin Records. The album sits in the jangle-pop and alternative rock territory that was common to the Canadian indie scene of the mid-to-late eighties, with melodic guitar-driven songs and strong vocal harmonies. "She Ain't Pretty" became one of their best-known tracks, though it appeared in a later re-recorded version on subsequent releases, and this album established the template for the band's sound.
