Here's a proper UK first pressing of the Stones' most underrated mid-70s effort, pressed on their own imprint during what many consider their creative peak. Black And Blue catches the band in fascinating transition - recorded between Mick Taylor's departure and Ron Wood's official joining, it showcases guest appearances from Harvey Mandel, Wayne Perkins, and others auditioning for the guitarist slot. This makes for some of the band's most adventurous playing, particularly on the Wayne Perkins-driven "Memory Motel" and the reggae-tinged "Cherry Oh Baby," which predates their more famous Caribbean experiments.

The UK Rolling Stones Records pressing is the one to own for sound quality - mastered from the original tapes at Whitfield Street before the various international licensing deals diluted the sonics. While critics initially dismissed it as unfocused, time has been kind to Black And Blue's experimental spirit and loose, jammy feel. Keith's guitar work is particularly inspired throughout, and Jagger's vocals have that perfect mid-70s rasp. Plus, you get that iconic Helmut Newton cover photography in its full gatefold glory. This pressing captures all the detail in Billy Preston's keyboards and the rhythm section's pocket - essential listening for anyone serious about the Stones' catalog beyond the obvious classics.
