The Sword's second full-length album, Gods of the Earth, came out in 2008 on Kemado Records. The Austin, Texas band plays a brand of heavy, riff-driven rock rooted in 70s hard rock and doom metal, drawing frequent comparisons to early Black Sabbath. Tracks like "The Black River" and "How Heavy This Axe" are representative of the album's thick, downtuned guitar work and mythology-laced lyrical themes.
