Here's a fascinating piece of Christian folk history that doesn't surface often. The Word Of God's "You Are My God" represents one of the more obscure yet compelling entries in the early 1970s Jesus Movement catalog. This Michigan-based community released this album as both a spiritual statement and musical document of their communal lifestyle, blending earnest folk arrangements with gospel themes in a way that feels both of its time and remarkably timeless. The group emerged from the Catholic charismatic renewal movement, and their approach to combining traditional folk instrumentation with contemporary Christian themes predated much of what would later become contemporary Christian music.
