Here's a fascinating piece of early 80s minimalism from the height of Germany's Neue Deutsche Welle movement. Trio's "Da Da Da" became one of the most unlikely international hits of 1982, built around nothing more than a Casio MT-30 keyboard, simple drums, and those hypnotic three-syllable vocals. What started as an anti-commercial statement by Düsseldorf art students ended up conquering charts worldwide, proving that sometimes the most reductive approach yields the most memorable results. The band deliberately stripped away everything they considered unnecessary in pop music, creating something that was simultaneously primitive and futuristic.
