Comments Van Halen is an American rock band formed in Pasadena, California, in 1972 by guitarist Eddie Van Halen, drummer Alex Van Halen, vocalist David Lee Roth, and bassist Michael Anthony. Known for their energetic live performances and Eddie Van Halen’s revolutionary guitar techniques—especially his use of two-handed tapping—the band became one of the most successful rock acts of the late 20th century.

Women and Children First, released in 1980, was their third studio album and marked a shift toward a heavier, more aggressive sound compared to their earlier work. It was also the first Van Halen album to feature all original material, with no cover songs.
