Here's a fascinating piece of Italian jazz history that doesn't surface very often. Jazz Spectrum was released by Curcio, the Milan-based label that made its mark in the 1960s and early 70s by licensing American jazz recordings for the European market, often packaging them in striking compilations that you simply couldn't find anywhere else. Curcio had a knack for curating these collections with real taste – they weren't just throwing together random tracks to fill an LP. The label's A&R team understood jazz and knew how to present it to the growing European audience hungry for authentic American sounds.
