Walter Carlos's 1969 follow-up to the landmark "Switched-On Bach," "The Well-Tempered Synthesizer" continues his exploration of classical repertoire performed entirely on the Moog synthesizer. The album features works by Monteverdi, Scarlatti, Handel, and Bach, rendered with the same meticulous attention to baroque phrasing and counterpoint that defined its predecessor. Carlos worked again with producer Rachel Elkind to translate these compositions into electronic form, expanding the sonic palette of the Moog beyond what had been heard on the debut record.
