Walter Murphy's 1978 album "Phantom of the Opera" is a disco and electronic orchestral record that follows in the style of his earlier work adapting classical themes for the dance floor. Murphy is best known for his 1976 hit "A Fifth of Beethoven," which repurposed Beethoven's Fifth Symphony into a disco track, and this album continues that approach by reworking themes from Andrew Lloyd Webber's then-recent stage musical. The record blends lush string arrangements with synthesizers and a disco rhythm section, fitting squarely into the late-70s orchestral disco sound.
