Dennis Brain's recordings of Mozart's four Horn Concertos with Herbert von Karajan conducting the Philharmonia Orchestra stand as one of the most celebrated accounts of these works ever set to tape, captured in the mid-1950s before Brain's untimely death in 1957. Brain was widely regarded as the finest French horn player of his generation, and his technique and musicality on these concertos — particularly the Third and Fourth — set a benchmark that has influenced horn playing for decades. Released on Angel Records in the US, this is a cornerstone recording of the classical horn repertoire.
