ZZ Top's 1979 compilation on Warner Bros. pulls together highlights from the Texas trio's first several albums, covering their raw blues-rock sound from the early-to-mid seventies. The band, formed in Houston in 1969 around guitarist Billy Gibbons, bassist Dusty Hill, and drummer Frank Beard, had built a reputation as a hard-driving live act before this collection brought their catalog together in one place. Tracks like "La Grange" and "Tush" represent the gritty, boogie-heavy style that defined their early years before the band moved into the more synthesizer-driven sound of the eighties.
